Tobacco company employees help build homes for lower-income families

A team of 20 Rothmans, Benson and Hedges employees gathered in Scarborough June 20 to take part in the Habitat for Humanity GTA Adopt-a-Day at the Pinery Trail build site. The team of volunteers spent the day caulking and laying laminate flooring in future homes for lower-income families. The build at 140 Pinery Trail is a three-year, three phase, 49 home project; the largest GTA build to date.

In addition to volunteering, Rothmans, Benson and Hedges (RBH) donated $30,000 to assist Habitat for Humanity in achieving its vision of “a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.” This lines up with RBH’s efforts to support local groups and programs as we work toward our sustainability goals. Rothmans, Benson and Hedges aligns itself with the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development aimed at ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity for all.

The partnership with Habitat for Humanity gave RBH employees the opportunity to volunteer their time while working toward a sustainability goal of providing livable cities and economic opportunity within the community.
